Every year we get several requests from people who wish to publicly address the April 15 audience. So this year we are introducing the "You are STU" campaign. Via the "You Are STU" campaign, everybody will have a chance to step up on the stage and share your thoughts with those in attendance. This is how the "You Are STU" campaign is going to work.
People who wish to speak will need to submit an essay no longer than 500 words on the topic of their choice. The STU event leaders will review all submissions and choose one or two essays to be presented by the author(s), on April 15th. We know we will receive several great submissions, therefore, we will not announce the winner(s) until the event itself, and the winner must obviously be present if they wish to address the audience. Those submissions that are deemed of sufficient quality will be posted to the Stop Taxing Us blog and shared with our online community. It's that simple, so start typing. Submissions should be emailed to mailbox@StopTaxingUs.com. Please write "APRIL 15 Speaker" in the subject line. No submissions will be accepted after Wednesday, April 13th. All submissions are considered voluntary.
Letters-to-the-editor: The Power of the Pen
Stop Taxing Us encourages you to write letters to papers and news organizations in order to promote fiscally conservative policy. Some publications will publish every letter they receive, while others will print a representative sample. If you would like to maximize the impact of your letter, we encourage you to join our letter writing team. Just send us a message via our contact us page.
Here are some important considerations when writing:
Letters must be less than 200 words for most publications. 150 words is even better.
Put your main topic in the opening sentence. Don't assume people will read your letter to the end.
Mention the www.StopTaxingUs.com website in your letter. Remember, we are building a brand name for fiscal and constitutional conservatives.
Sign your letter with your name, city of residence, and phone number. The papers will not print your telephone number but they might call to verify you wrote the letter.
Send your letter to multiple publications.
In California submit letters to the following and others that you might know:
The North County Times: letters@nctimes.com
The San Diego Union Tribune: letters@uniontrib.com
The Orange County Register: letters@ocregister.com
The Los Angeles Times: letters@LATimes.com (strict limit of 150 words)
The San Francisco Chronicle: business@sfchronicle.com
The Sacramento Bee: oped@sacbee.com
