What is Stop Taxing Us?

STU is an all-volunteer tax payer advocacy group based in North San Diego county.  We are a true grass roots organization that works to unite everyday citizens to promote fiscal responsibility, personal liberty and a free market economy.  We do NOT believe that our debts should be paid for by our children and grandchildren. 

Who can be a member of Stop Taxing Us?

All are welcome to join and basic membership is free.  We currently have over 20,000 registered supporters.

How can I get the Stop Taxing Us monthly eNewsletter?

You can receive our Award Winning (ok, our moms gave us the award) eNewsletter by visiting our contact page and leaving your email address .  Our email list is never share, sold, or rented for "sponsored" messages.  For your security, our email list is secured by a third party vendor.  We value your support and promise not to SPAM you.  Generally speaking we only send one monthly email update.  To interact with us more frequently see "How can I get involved" below.  

How did you decide on the name Stop Taxing Us?

The organization was named after a “battle cry” when a group of citizens decided to fight a local bond measure in Southern California in 2008.  California, with its reputation to quickly turn to new taxes for social programs, caused the community to shout "STOP TAXING US" in unity.  Together we defeated this bond which would have created over $1 billion in new taxes for the residents of three small cities……the name stuck.

Does Stop Taxing Us believe there should be no taxation?

No, taxation is a necessary component of the social compact of any functional society.  We do however believe that government should be limited to the basic principles set forth by the United States Constitution.  In this regard we believe that government has become too intrusive in our individual lives.  The best way to shrink government is the limit its revenue source (tax dollars). 

How can I get involved with Stop Taxing Us?

There are several ways to interact with this organization.  First, we recognize that the average person only has a few spare hours in any given week.  Therefore, we strive to make maximal use of the internet to keep you informed.  We accomplish this via the use of our Website, our monthly e-Newsletter, Facebook, Twitter, and Meetup.

Can I get involved “in person”?

Yes, Stop Taxing Us hosts a monthly social, and once a year we host a large, multi-coalition Tax Day Tea Party.  This annual event typically draws thousands of people.  In addition to our socials, and large events, you can also join us on visits to the offices of local legislators.  Finally, Stop Taxing Us volunteers are actively involved in editorial submissions, and radio and television appearances.  Your personal involvement is only limited by your imagination.    

How does Stop Taxing Us meet its financial obligations?

We are entirely supported by donations from our supporters.  Sorry, donations are not tax deductible, but we promise not to waste your money.  Please visit the Stop Taxing Us STORE (tab on the homepage) if you would like to support STU.
